The artist acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar People traditional owners of Wadjemup Island, Western Australia.
The artwork is a tribute to the 373 Aboriginal men and boys who lost their lives on the Wadjemup island. Also for the 4000 indigenous men who were imprisoned at Wadjemup between 1838 and 1931.
77 pieces make up the ceramic sculpture. The sea urchins are made from 6 varieties of clay. The raised beads are fine porcelain.
The artist's own formulated glazes are variegated. They interact with the minerals in the clay to form streaks and mottles. Colours include emerald , azure, lilac, honey, iron and galah.
High fired to 1280 degrees Celcius. Vitrified stoneware quality. Suitable for indoor or outdoor display .
