3. The Medicine Shelf
On the recessed shelf, at the Jetty Shack, there’s a row of old fashioned medicine bottles and jars.
Some of the remedies are natural grown therapies from plants. Other medicines include psychedelic compounds invented by maverick scientists.
All the medicines on the shelf are remedies to enhance well being and facilitate trauma recovery. The medicines are in large quantities and available in abundance to the occupants of the Jetty Shack.
Red uses the medicines for trauma therapy, Fuckanne uses them for recreation and Graffiti uses them for creative focus.
In Australia, eligible patients can access medicinal cannabis via an authorised prescriber doctor. Cannabis medicine comes in different forms such as oils, capsules, edibles, concentrates and dry flower. Read more at Health Direct.

Before the prohibition the Shulgins administered MDMA to patients in conjunction with psychotherapy. The couple introduced MDMA to other psychotherapists.
The drug was used recreationally by party goers in the 70’s and 80’s. The street name for MDMA is ‘ecstasy’ or ‘molly’.
In 2023 the prohibition for MDMA was changed in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration from ‘prohibited’ to ‘controlled’, a world first. Approved Psychiatrists in Australia can prescribe MDMA assisted psychotherapy to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Australia was the first country, worldwide, to approve the use of psilocybin, commonly known as Magic Mushrooms, as medicine against treatment resistant depression. In 2023 the Therapeutic Goods Administration changed the status of the drug from ‘prohibited’ to ‘controlled’.
Hundreds of species of psilocybin fungi turn blue when they are cut with a knife. When they are bruised also a dark blue pigment, like indigo, appears. Some species of psilocybin mushrooms instantly develop a blue coloration after being bruised or cut. Others take hours for the blue to develop.
